Who we are
European Defence Analytics was founded through a collaboration of military analysts, former soldiers, and long standing civil servants who have worked in defence, defence technologies, and the economics of military solutions.

Martin Kugla
President
He has been publishing long term on security and military issues, as well as on armament projects of the Slovak Republic’s Armed Forces. He has served as a consultant to the Supreme Audit Office of the Slovak Republic when evaluating military procurements, and led the analytical team at the Institute for Central Europe.
Vladimír Bednár
He has long been involved in research on defence planning and the modernisation of armed forces, as well as intelligence disciplines such as IMINT, GEOINT, MASINT, and TECHINT. He has worked in government institutions focusing on project management, computerisation, and cybersecurity.
Jozef Malik
Col. (Ret.)
After joining the Slovak Armed Forces, he worked in logistics. From 2014 until the end of his military career, he served on the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic, focusing on armament projects and defence research. He contributed to most of the Slovak Armed Forces’ armament projects between 2015 and 2024.

Proposal for optimizing the planned acquisition of small arms and accessories for the Slovak Armed Forces. (project carried out under the auspices of the Institute for Central Europe)
Project “Optimization of the Composition of a Heavy Mechanized Brigade”
Conceptual analysis for the Slovak Ministry of Defence – optimizing the structure of a Heavy Mechanized Brigade while taking into account the challenges of current and future conflicts, adding new capabilities, and identifying possible cost saving measures. (project carried out under the auspices of the Institute for Central Europe)
Project “Tracked Combat Armoured Vehicles”
Analysis for the Slovak Ministry of Defence – exploring the possibilities of establishing a declarable / certifiable Heavy Mechanised Brigade already after the first phase of procurement of Tracked Combat Armoured Vehicles (PBOV) is completed. (project carried out under the auspices of the Institute for Central Europe)
